позволю себе пару замечаний (раз уж тут изучаем английский):

he has thought - это present perfect, настоящее совершенное время, обозначает только что завершившееся действие. Так как мы ведем речь о событиях прошлого в форме рассказа, корректнее использовать время past simle и будет просто he thought.
in a festival не "a", а "the" - так как речь уже об определенном фестивале, и артикль определенный должен быть.

Я всего-лишь письменный технический переводчик, мадам, почти с 30 летним стажем .
И дело имею больше с болтами и гайками, ну и с электродвигателями всякими и т.д. Для нас артикли особого значения не имеют, хотя я больше употребляю "the" чем "a". Разговорный язык я хуже знаю, так что для меня написание рассказа будет определенной практикой .

Когда они вступили на территорию проведения фестиваля, первое, что им бросилось в глаза, так это огромное чучело...
This scarecrow was too huge to remember. It seemed that it's height was up to heavens. No one knew the real height of this monster ...

Это чучело было настолько огромным, что и не вспомнить. Казалось, его высота достигает небес. Никто не знал реальную высоту этого монстра...

The old couple examined the huge construction. It was made of thick branches with small grain oats between them. "It's porridge!" - exclaimed the old man. The lady nodded assent and fell to thinking. The whole picture suddenly reminded her the story of Jack and the bean tree.

Старая пара осмотрела огромную конструкцию. Она была сделана из толстых веток с маленьким прослойками зерна между ними. «Это - каша!» - воскликнул старик. Леди кивнула в знак согласия и задумалась. Полная картина внезапно напомнила ей историю о Джеке и Бобовом дереве.

Дорогие читатели! Я думаю, что рассказ будет слишком длинным из-за калейдоскопа приключений. Я обращаюсь с реальной просьбой, чтобы вы помогли нам завершить эту историю. Правда, я понятия не имею, как продолжить этот рассказ... я надеюсь на понимание...

We go into space, prepared for everything that is to loneliness, struggle, suffering and death. Out of modesty, we do not say it out loud, but thought to myself that we are great. Мы направляемся в космос, готовые ко всему - к одиночеству, борьбе, страданию и смерти. Из скромности мы не говорим об этом вслух, но про себя думаем, что мы великие. Но на самом деле, это еще не все и наша готовность обеспечить только позицию (what did the author mean here???). Мы не хотим покорять космос, хотим лишь расширить Землю до его границ.

But no one woke up on time. The journey continued for many centuries. Old homeland became only a distant memory, even for computers, and the ship flew, and flew...

After about three thousand years after the beginning of the journey the ship was approaching the star system, which had its own planets.
